Contract Length: 26‑week assignment, ongoing need
Schedule
Coverage Type: Scheduled clinical hours + required call
Shift Structure & Expectations:
Flexible mix of 8‑, 10‑, and 12‑hour shifts
Standard day shift window: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (flexible)
Must be open to weeknight and/or weekend call
Call ratio: approximately 1:10
Consistent weekly schedule determined by department needs
EMR: Epic
Practice Details
Setting:
Inpatient anesthesia practice at a large regional acute care hospital
274‑bed facility with orthopedic hospital, pre‑operative services, maternity care, general surgery, heart & vascular, and spine services
Accredited Primary Stroke Center and Magnet‑recognized for nursing excellence
Department Focus:
General anesthesia across a wide range of surgical specialties
Obstetrics anesthesia required (all candidates must have OB experience)
Regional anesthesia, epidurals, spinals
Cases across general surgery, orthopedics, spine, neuro (spine only), vascular, ENT, and NORA
Cath Lab anesthesia support
No open heart, thoracic, or pain management procedures
Support Staff:
Care‑team model with MDs supervising CRNAs
Providers may perform their own cases when needed
Credentialing Timeframe: Approx. 90 days

Procedures & Case Types:
General anesthesia (adults required; pediatrics preferred but not required)
OB anesthesia (epidurals, spinals) — mandatory skill
Spinal anesthesia
Epidural anesthesia
Regional anesthesia
Complex orthopedic cases
Complex vascular (non‑open‑heart)
Neuro/spine
Cath Lab
NORA: GI endoscopy, MRI, IR
Additional Details:
Ventilation management required
Central and arterial line placement required
No PA catheter placement
No open heart or thoracic cases
Requirements
Role: Physician — Anesthesiology
Board Certification: Required
License: Must hold active Virginia medical license
DEA: Required
Certifications:
OB anesthesia experience required
Standard anesthesia board certification
TEE certification not required
Experience:
Minimum 2 years recent clinical experience
Ability to work in a high‑volume, multi‑specialty inpatient environment
Skills Required:
Epidurals, spinals, and regional anesthesia
Central line and arterial line placement
Competency across general, orthopedic, spine, vascular, neuro‑spine, ENT, and OB cases
Experience with Epic EMR preferred
Location
Norfolk, Virginia — Inpatient anesthesia practice within a 274‑bed regional hospital specializing in orthopedic and spine care, maternity services, vascular care, general surgery, and stroke center support, with required OB anesthesia and flexible scheduling across 8‑, 10‑, and 12‑hour shifts plus call.
