Job Description: Locum NP/PA – Cardiothoracic Surgery (1st Assist)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a high-acuity Cardiothoracic Surgery role in Mishawaka, IN. This position is strictly focused on OR 1st Assisting, Vein Harvesting, and Inpatient Rounding; there are no outpatient office requirements. The ideal candidate is a surgical specialist proficient in the Maquet System and capable of managing complex CTS patients from pre-op to discharge.

Scope of Work
Surgical Duties: Primary focus on 1st Assisting and Maquet Vein/Artery Harvesting.

Clinical Flow: Typical days begin with hospital rounding followed by dedicated time in the OR.

Patient Volume: Average 5–8 Inpatients and 10 Outpatients (for pre/post-op hospital visits).

Clinical Care: Perform H&Ps, inpatient consultations, discharge summaries, and monitoring of therapies/medications.

Procedures: Chest tube and pacing wire removal, wound care (debridement, suturing, staple removal), and Cardiac Rehab coordination.

Emergency Response: Responding to emergencies using CPR and ACLS protocols.

EMR: Documentation and care management via EPIC.

Schedule & Call Requirements
Structure: Hospital rounding and OR time.

Call Schedule: * Night Call: 4:00 PM – 7:00 AM (2 hours gratis).

24-Hour Call: 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM (4 hours gratis).

Call Back: Providers must respond for emergency surgical assistance or bedside care.

Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of CTS experience (No new grads).

Technical Skills: Must be proficient in Maquet Vein/Artery Harvesting [Required].

Licensure: Active Indiana State License in hand at the time of submission [Required].

Certification: Board Certification (NCCPA for PAs or AANP for NPs); BLS and ACLS [Required].

Compliance: * Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination [Required].

Self-Query NPDB report pulled within the current month [Required].

Location: Local candidates (within driving distance) are [Highly Preferred].
